Lake St. Clair Guide Trips

Minnesota and Indiana musky fishing guide service with Spencer Berman and Spencer's Angling AdventuresLake St. Clair is a fresh-water lake that lies between the Province of Ontario and the State of Michigan, and its midline forms the boundary between Canada and the United States. This lake is situated about 6.0 miles northeast of Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario. With about 430 square miles of water area, it is part of the Great Lakes System. Lake St. Clair is about 26 miles from north to south and about 24 miles from east to west. It is a rather shallow lake for its size with an average depth of about 11 feet, and a maximum natural depth of 21.3 feet, however it is 27-32 feet deep in the navigation channels which have been dredged for Lake Freighter passage. Lake St. Clair is fed with fresh water flowing out of Lake Huron to its north via the St. Clair River, which has an extensive river delta, the largest one within the Great Lakes System. The outflow from Lake St. Clair flows from its southwestern end into the Detroit River, and then into Lake Erie.  The best feature of these waters is they all have one thing in common, Great Fishing.
The fishing on Lake St. Clair and its surrounding rivers is nothing short of amazing for all species, however, the musky fishing has become second to none anywhere in the world. With more then one fish per acre, the lake can boast more then 160,000 muskies while still having the top end size that you would hope to have in any trophy fishery. Due to the numbers and the size, we see far more days with between 10-15 fish then we do days with zero fish. In the season of 2011 we were lucky enough to only blank four times during the entire summer and fall.
Lake St. Clair is a boarder water and we do spend some time fishing in Canadian water, however because we do not touch land you are able to fish Canadian water even if you have a criminal record (DUI’s etc.) as long as you possess a valid Canadian fishing license (see links below)Minnesota and Indiana musky fishing guide service with Spencer Berman and Spencer's Angling Adventures

Indiana Guide Trips

Our Lakes:

  • Webster Lake
  • Tippecanoe Lake
  • James Lake
  • The Barbee Chain
  • Upper Long

The North Webster area lakes are well known through the musky world for boasting some of the best musky fishing in the world. Webster Lake has the highest density of muskies per acre in the world. In addition, trophy opportunities definitely exist with my personal best Indiana fish stretching the tape to 51.5 inches.

Fishing Dates:

March 10-15 (Ice Out) — through early June

Due to the fact that Indiana has no seasons, we start fishing as soon as the ice leaves the lakes. In a normal year this means that the fishing starts right around the 10th-15th of March. It is important to note that the fishing which occurs right after ice out is nothing short of amazing, with five to eight legal fish per day being common. From ice out to early June we focus on these lakes, however, in early June the warm Indiana water temps find us heading up north to pursue muskies around the Twin Cities area.

Fall Trophy Hunt

It is well known in musky fishing that fall is the best time to catch monster fish. This fact has certainly been proven on Lake St. Clair. For the last couple of years, I have been returning home to spend my fall chasing monster muskies on Lake St. Clair.

Every year we are lucky enough to catch some unbelievable fish with shocking consistency. In 2010, we were even lucky enough to stumble on to a monster 55.25x26.75 incher with an estimated weight of 50 pounds. It was one of the biggest fish ever caught in the Lakes 100 plus year history.

One notable aspect to the fall trophy pattern is that despite the fact that Lake St. Clair is known more for its trolling bite, the fall lays out differently and is actually mainly a casting bite. We do incorporate some trolling when the conditions dictate; however, casting enthusiasts will have their fill of casting action for these monster muskies.

Due to the incredible results that we have posted the last couple years, these days book up quickly, so be sure to call or email as soon as you can!
